CIVIL LEGAL REGULATORY REFORM TASK FORCE: SURVEYS AND FOCUS GROUPS

The DC Courts' Civil Legal Regulatory Reform Task Force wants to hear from you! Tell us what you think about having more legal help available to people in DC.

Did you know that many people try to get legal help but don’t get it because the cost is too high or because free or low cost lawyers aren’t available? Current rules only allow licensed lawyers to provide legal help, but a court task force is trying to explore other ways for people to get legal help.

One idea is to allow people who are not lawyers to be trained to give legal help to people with some types of civil legal problems, like housing/eviction, protection from abuse/domestic violence, family issues like child custody and child support, and money issues like public benefits and debt. The task force wants to know what you think about this idea.
