Excusals
Excusals: A written request to be excused from jury service permanently or for a period of 2 years must be accompanied by supporting documentation and submitted via eJuror or email at JurorHelp [at] dcsc.gov for petit service, or GrandJurorHelp [at] dcsc.gov for grand jury service. You will receive written notification of the decision usually within 2 business days. Lack of supporting documentation is grounds for denial of your request.
You may be excused for the following reasons with supporting documentation:
- Physical/Mental Disability
- Provide a brief explanation and verifiable medical certificate
- Provide a brief explanation and verifiable medical certificate
- Served with District of Columbia Superior Court or United States District Court within the past 24 months
- Must provide the dates and name under which you served; and
- Proof of the summons from the United States District Court
- Not a DC resident
- Provide documentation with proof of non-DC residency
- Driver's ID
- Utility bill
- Voter registration card
- Lease/Deed
- Provide documentation with proof of non-DC residency
- Care for a child that is under the age of two and half (2.5) years
- Provide a copy of the birth certificate for the child(ren) under the age of two and a half (2.5) years
- Provide a copy of the birth certificate for the child(ren) under the age of two and a half (2.5) years
- 70 years of age or older
- Prospective jurors who are 70 years of age or older may be excluded from jury service upon request; proof of age is required
- Prospective jurors who are 70 years of age or older may be excluded from jury service upon request; proof of age is required
- Undue hardship (i.e., extreme inconvenience or public necessity)
- Provide an explanation and proof of the extreme inconvenience and public necessity
