D.C. Court of Appeals Names New Clerk of Court

WASHINGTON, DC – Chief Judge Eric T. Washington announced the appointment of Julio A. Castillo as Clerk of the DC Court of Appeals. As Court Clerk, Mr. Castillo will oversee all Court of Appeals (DCCA) operations 
 
Prior to joining the DCCA, Mr. Castillo served for 15 years as the Executive Director of the DC Public Employee Relations Board (PERB). In addition to his service with the PERB, Mr. Castillo has held legal positions with the DC Public Schools, the DC Council, and the Bureau of Consumer Protection of the Federal Trade Commission. 
“Mr. Castillo is a very talented lawyer who also brings a wealth of government management experience in the District of Columbia to the Courts,” said Chief Judge Washington. “His strong leadership skills made him an ideal candidate for the Clerk’s position, and we are pleased that someone of his caliber will be joining us” 
 
The Clerk’s office is responsible for receiving and maintaining all case filings, coordinating the scheduling of arguments and monitoring the progress of approximately 1,700 cases filed in the Court of Appeals each year. The Clerk of the DCCA is also a key member of the senior leadership team of the District of Columbia Courts, which consist of the DC Court of Appeals, the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, and the support functions of the Court System.  
 
Mr. Castillo holds a B.A. in Economics from Columbia University and a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. In addition, he is a member of both the DC and New York bars.
