WASHINGTON, DC - Erik Patrick Christian, former Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice for the District of Columbia, was sworn-in today as the newest Associate Judge on the DC Superior Court. Court of Appeals Chief Judge Annice Wagner administered the oath of office to Judge Christian. 
 
"Judge Christian is a fine attorney who has devoted his career to public service. He brings to the bench the legal experience, intellect and temperament essential for a jurist in resolving fairly the varied cases in Superior Court. He will add to the stature of an outstanding trial court," said Chief Judge Wagner. Judge Christian served as a law clerk to Chief Judge Wagner when she sat on the DC Superior Court. 
 
Judge Christian was born and raised in the District of Columbia. He graduated with distinction from Archbishop John Carroll High School. He graduated from Howard University magna cum laude and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Georgetown Law Center. 
 
Judge Christian began his legal career as an associate with the law firm of Webster and Fredrickson. After serving as law clerk to Judge Wagner, he was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, and was later appointed Deputy Chief of the Misdemeanor Trial Section. 
 
In 1995, Judge Christian was appointed First Assistant US Attorney for the District of the Virgin Islands. In this role he served as second in command to the US Attorney, and also prosecuted both local and federal cases. In 1997, he returned to the US Attorney's Office in the District of Columbia, prosecuting several high-profile homicide cases. As a prosecutor, Judge Christian received numerous awards for his trial and managerial accomplishments. In addition, he has served as a trial instructor with the National Institute of Trial Advocacy at the Georgetown Law Center and with the District of Columbia Criminal Practice Institute. 
 
Today's ceremony took place in the third floor atrium of the H. Carl Moultrie I Courthouse at 500 Indiana Avenue.
