David J. H. Garvin, MSW, LMSW, is the Senior Director at Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County, Michigan. He is responsible for the management of the Alternatives to Domestic Aggression Program (ADA) and is also the Clinical Director for the Behavioral Health Services program, Substance Abuse Treatment Services, Program Manager for the Supervised Parenting & Exchange Program and the Adoption and Pregnancy Programs of Catholic Social Services of Washtenaw County.

David received his Masters Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University in 1986 and in 1990 the Eastern Michigan University School of Social Work named David the Distinguished Alumni of the Year. David has been featured on local, regional, and national television and his work in batterer intervention has been highlighted in newspapers, magazines, and state and national social work publications. He is a founding member of the Batterer Intervention Services Coalition of Michigan (BISC-MI) and has served as Chair for many years.

In May 1997 David was appointed by Governor John Engler (Michigan) to Co-Chair the Governor’s Task Force on Batterer Intervention Standards. This project involved the creation of a multi-disciplinary task force. The standards were completed in June 1998. In 2003 he was elected to serve as the Chair Elect of the Batterer Intervention Services Coalition of Michigan and was the winner of the 2009 National Association of Social Workers-Michigan (NASW) Social Worker of the Year. Mr. Garvin has won many, many awards for his demonstrated work in the area of domestic violence and batterer intervention.
