Valerie V. Collins, MSW, is the Branch Chief for the Domestic Violence Supervision and Treatment Units with the District of Columbia Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency (CSOSA).  She has served in this position since 2004. Ms. Collins is a native of Springfield, Massachusetts.  She received a BA in Sociology (with a concentration in Criminal Justice) in 1983, and a Master of Social Work in 1986.  Both degrees are from Howard University.

Ms. Collins has extensive training in Domestic Violence.  She has been employed with D.C. Superior Court as a Probation Officer and has undergone an intensive training curriculum with the House of Ruth Battered Women’s Shelter.  Subsequently, the Domestic Violence Intervention Program (DVIP) was developed and implemented. She is certified as a Duluth Model Counselor for Batterer's Intervention and has co-facilitated Batterer’s Treatment Groups for seven years.  Currently as a Branch Chief with CSOSA, her focus now is to train and develop Community Supervision Officer’s to appropriately provide supervision and treatment for domestic violence offenders.   Under her management, the staff receives specialized training in domestic violence to meet the CSOSA mission of public safety, accountability, intervention and the development of community partnerships to end abusive relationships.

Ms. Collins is a member of the District of Columbia’s Domestic Violence Implementation Committee.  She has conducted workshops for the American Probation and Parole Association; the Middle Atlantic States Correctional Association; the National Association of Blacks in Criminal Justice; the National Black Police Association and the Institute for Social Justice International Crime Summit in Belize, Central America.
