WASHINGTON, DC – Chief Judge Lee F. Satterfield today announced the recent selection of Sherry Moore Trafford to serve as a magistrate judge in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. “We are fortunate to have someone join our bench who has spent their legal career in public service in the District of Columbia and understands the role the Superior Court plays in the day-to-day lives of the individuals who appear before it.”
Sherry Moore Trafford has been a staff attorney representing respondents in civil mental health commitment cases and insanity acquittees seeking release from Saint Elizabeths Hospital in the Mental Health Division of the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia since 2004. Ms. Trafford received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with Honors from Indiana University and a Juris Doctor degree from Yale Law School.
Ms. Trafford has dedicated her career to public service and the law. After graduating from law school she worked as a law clerk to the late Honorable William Bryant in the US District Court for the District of Columbia; was an attorney at the Bazelon Center for Mental Health Law; and has been a staff attorney with the Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia for over 15 years.
