Reasons You May Be Unable to Serve
Reasons You May Be Unable to Serve: If any of the following reasons applies to a prospective juror, he/she may not be able to serve:
- Persons who are not citizens of the United States
- Persons who have not resided in the District of Columbia for the six (6) months immediately preceding the issuance of the summons
- Persons who have not attained eighteen (18) years of age
- Persons not able to read, speak, or understand the English language
- Persons determined to be incapable by reason of physical or mental disability that would prevent satisfactory jury service
- Persons who have a pending felony or pending misdemeanor charge
- Persons with a pending charge in any DC, federal, or state court
- Persons convicted of a felony, and it has not been one (1) year since the completion of their jail term, probation, or parole (applies to petit jury service)
- Persons convicted of a felony, and it has not been ten (10) years since the completion of their jail term, probation, or parole (applies to grand jury service)
